Are you ready to get a jump start on getting to college? Earning college credits during high school can prepare you for even further academic success. Luckily, there are programs out there to help your child do just this to take control of their future. Check out this program to see if SCC Running Start is the right fit for you!

About SCC Running Start

During the Spokane Community College Running Start program, juniors and seniors in high school can simultaneously earn college and high school credits. Classes are regular Spokane Community College (SCC) classes taught on campus, so high school students can attend full-time or part-time and still attend classes at their high school. Interested high school students can take up to 15 tuition-free credits. That is free college!

I know not having student loans is an incredible feeling, so getting college credits for free is a fantastic offer. Students in 11th or 12th grade at the beginning of the school year are eligible for the Spokane Community College Running Start program. Knowing if the SCC Running Start program is right for you is essential.

The Program

The program takes self-motivation, discipline, and excellent study skills. It is a great opportunity for high school students wanting an academic challenge or a different experience. But you must be prepared for college classes’ independence, fast pace, and time demands while maintaining your high school classes.

They teach these college-level courses at a faster pace than high school classes, they require a lot of prep and study time, and the high schoolers will be in classes with college-age adults. Hence, discussions may have sensitive and mature topics discussed during classes. Since you will be a college student, you will be responsible for following the Spokane Community College rules of conduct. You must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher to continue participating in the program.
