Are you looking for a rustic venue with tons of open land and quaint historic features? The Barn on Wild Rose Prairie is a farm-style wedding venue north of Spokane in the Deer park area. This venue was a working dairy farm that has transitioned into one of Spokane’s most charming outdoor wedding and event venues. Keep reading to learn more about all they have to offer, as well as some first-hand information from the owners.
The Barn on Wild Rose Prairie, previously Wild Rose Dairy, was operated by the Oiland family for over 50 years. Although the cows are now gone, the family has operated the farm for four generations. They have also remodeled the 50-year-old barn into the venue it is today. While maintaining the property’s rustic charm, modern amenities have been added to create the perfect event facility.
The first wedding held at the barn was for a sibling in the summer of 2012. A year later, Chris and Aubrey used it for the same purpose and, with that, opened the venue. That said, the venue is truly a love story, one in which Chris, Aubrey, and their family graciously extended the invitation to others.
While touring the facility, you could feel the excitement bursting out of Chris. He was incredibly passionate about the place that he and his family had created. Aubrey even had to break in and say – Chris, let them talk too! Chris shared stories of his favorite weddings and how the various parties have utilized the spaces to make their own special days full of memories.
He also shared the more practical issues of operating a venue which they have resolved. Things like protection from the sun’s heat, rain, wind, and cold weather can catch the inland northwest by surprise at times- as it did in the fall of 2019 with bitter cold and snow storms on Spokane County’s last venue operating day for the year.
The Barn on Wild Rose Prairie offers 2300 square-foot of covered space. It includes prominent men’s and women’s bathrooms, a covered deck, a reception hall, and a dressing room for the wedding party. Outside the barn is a 1-acre lawn that provides space for outdoor seating, and parking is available in the field between the main entrance and the barn. New additions to the 50-year-old barn include a deck, French doors, windows, roof panels, and concrete. Inside the barn, you can find the preserved original 50-year-old wood and a newly poured concrete floor finished with a darker stain. The new French doors lead out to the deck, offering an open environment.
The barn’s interior and exterior feature authentic and rustic farm decor. Such as milk cans, colored glassware, and farm-style table centerpieces. It also features a ‘42 Ford truck and ‘69 Camaro parked in the yard, which make the ultimate backdrop for photos. The barn space also has an outdoor bar area with patio heaters available for your use.
The Barn on Wild Rose Prairie offers a variety of amenities for your event. It also boasts the ability to accommodate up to 200 guests. The venue provides seating and tables for rental, an outdoor fire pit, a concrete dance floor, seating, a portable PA system, and a 10-hour occupancy with a two-hour rehearsal or decoration time before the event day. As well as providing set-up and clean-up services, the facility offers decorations, authentic farm decor, a bar, custom lighting, and a large lawn. This venue also has preferred vendors for caterers, entertainment, and hair and makeup.
I had the opportunity to photograph a wedding at the barn recently. The wedding was a simple celebration of love with close family and friends. There were yard games, a deliciously smoky barbecue, and a conga line stretched beyond the available dance floor. Wedding details were spot on for their modern rustic barn-style wedding. The added details were then complimented by the beautifully laid out and landscaped facility. As a photographer, I appreciated all the photo locations available. The property contains several barns, a silo, an old truck, beautiful territorial views, fields, and various landscaping elements. The wedding I photographed even had ciders! And let me tell you, a wedding that offers ciders to the guests is pretty awesome in my books.
Chris and his wife maintain a venue built on the value of family and celebration. As such, Chris made sure the venue operated smoothly for everyone.
The Barn on Wild Rose Prairie offers rustic simplicity, fantastic accommodations, gorgeous views, and dedication to making your wedding the best it can be.
