What is a BFF photo session? Best friend senior pictures are a chance to gather with your favorite group of people for professional best friends’ photos. And what could be more meaningful than making purposeful photo memories with those who made school the best?

Best friend senior pictures are perfect for friends, siblings, cousins or your own family.

This article covers three types of BFF sessions. Those sessions with your high school friends, college friends and sessions with your family

Best Friends Senior Pictures for High School Seniors

Best friend photos for high school seniors celebrate the friendship, milestones, and nostalgia of the end of childhood and start of adulthood. These BFF sessions express the joy of those friendships that survived school, sports, and way too much late-night homework.

BFF photos can be a great alternative to solo senior portraits or a fun add-on. Have an idea for your best friend photos? I would love to hear yours! Need some ideas? Try a theme like school spirit, sports, spring/ summer/ fall outfits, a day at the lake, flowers and fields, in the mountains, going country, or downtown streets and rooftops. There is no shortage of great options out there and I am happy to help you find your best theme and location.

Best Friends Photos for College Graduates

College is a huge transition period where you gain independence, confidence and create some of the deepest life friendships. Post grad life will likely take your friend group in many directions. As such, be intentional in reserving a college BFF session. Best friend photo sessions are emotional in nature but absolutely full of celebration.

For outfits, consider a cohesive theme along with your cap and gown regalia. You might do white skirts and dresses, or a seasonal theme of colors. Perhaps college shirts with jeans. Whatever you choose, elevate your styling to make the pictures pop.

During your photo session we will visit those favorite landmark locations on your campus. Have a favorite off campus spot or want photos in front of your residence – lets do it!

BFF Photo Sessions for Families

Family BFF sessions could be any combination of siblings, cousins, parent-child best friends, or other chosen family. These photos with your family are special as they express the joy of your family connection, legacy, and relationships over the poses.

You will find BFF family sessions are often more relaxed than traditional family photos as the theme centers on celebrating you, the senior, more than a getting a forced smile for Christmas cards.

Adding on family photos to any senior picture session is super easy and a great way make lasting memories.

What to Expect During Your Best Friends Senior Pictures

Best friend photo sessions last 60-90 minutes with a mix of friend groupings and solo photos during a shared session. The session could be centered around a theme such as a sport, activity, season, style of outfit, or as a celebration with your graduation cap and gown.

During the session there will be a good mix of simple formal poses, movement poses and candid moments to capture the fun of friendship over stiff posed photos. As your photographer, I will keep things relaxed and fun throughout your whole session with laughter, movement, and real interaction.

4 Things to Prepare for Your BFF Session

  1. Choose your outfits without matching too much. You might try same color outfits but in mixed styles. Or consider checking out Pinterest for some good complimentary color outfit options.
  2. Bring meaningful props. If you’re a group of sports friends, consider your sport equipment or uniforms. Love flowers? Bring a bouquet. Going to college? Bring a school flag or pendant. Graduating from college? Bring some champagne to pop!
  3. Plan ahead and schedule your hair and makeup.
  4. Choose a location that matches your theme. If you don’t know, ask your photographer. If you want to work with me, I would be more than happy to help with location selection.
